After college I landed a job in the field of investment banking. I didn't plan to work in that field, but once I did, I loved it! I loved the fast-paced environment on Wall Street with phones ringing, making trades, and selling investments. I thought that was what I wanted to do until I retired. But over time, I became disillusioned and discovered firsthand the powerful impact that stress can have on high achievers. The stress of quotas, working long days, and the pressure to perform caused health issues. I was unable to sleep at night and would toss and turn and talk in my sleep. I was eating out a lot, making unhealthy choices, and thereby gaining weight. I was working all the time, not seeing my friends, or pursuing any hobbies - my life was unfulfilling. I was no longer jazzed up about what I was doing and felt burned out.
I took some time off to be a mom and during that time worked with a life coach. I had the luxury of being able to take the time to look into a second career that would make me truly happy and fulfilled instead of just making money. Through soul searching and the results of personality testing, I found that I always came back to my passion for food. I love talking about food, cooking, shopping, eating home cooked meals, and sharing food with friends and family.
Growing up in an Italian family, food represented comfort, love, and friendship. The women in my family spent lots of time preparing the family home cooked meals and feasts for the holidays. I started cooking at age 11 when my mother went to work. My Mom taught me how to shop and make meals to feed a family of five on a budget. My grandmother taught me how to make pasta, sauce, and meatballs. Because food was a big part of my life and I was passionate about it, I decided to look at careers involving food. I looked into programs where I lived and decided to attend one where I would receive classroom training involving nutrition.
When I first started the Certified Nutrition Consulting program at Bauman College, what I became most fascinated with was how food could help manage health conditions. I was skeptical at first, but decided to try out what I was learning on my own health conditions. I had hypothyroidism and was on a thyroid medicine. My cholesterol was high and I was overweight. I changed my diet and ate foods that supported my conditions. In a very short time, I was no longer on any medicine, my cholesterol was in a normal range, and I lost weight. The more I learned in school about how food was like medicine and could help manage so many conditions of aging without medicines, the more intrigued I was. Why didn't the doctor talk to me about how diet could help?!
After graduating from Bauman College, I started my own nutrition consulting practice and have seen first hand how changes in diet can help manage many conditions such as pre-diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, thyroid disease, weight management, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and more. Most chronic diseases are preventable with a healthy diet and lifestyle, and daily exercise.
As I have aged, I have discovered some secrets of living longer, how to live well, and living every moment to the fullest. In order to enjoy longevity, it is essential to understand and prepare for what's ahead. I am interested in staying healthy and active for as long as I can to be around to meet my grandchildren, fulfill more of my dreams, and travel. And I want this for others - I want to help others be able to live long and healthy lives and improve their quality of life. I want to help others age in a healthy way and feel good doing so!
I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston College. After a successful career in investment banking, I earned my Certificate in Nutrition Consulting from Bauman College in Boulder Colorado. I am the owner of Longevity Wellness, a holistic health and wellness practice, where I help individuals and couples manage health issues without medicine. I am also a Wellness Advocate for doTERRA International and combine the use of essential oils in my practice. As a Processed-Free Living Support Group leader with Processed Free America, I hold monthly meetings at Natural Grocers to provide nutrition education and support to the Denver community to live processed free.
The guiding principle underlying my work is to find the root cause of your symptoms and to use whole foods as medicine. My mission is to empower you to make dietary changes to eat colorful, healthy, whole foods you have prepared, and to educate you on how to make positive lifestyle changes to be able to live the life you want with gratitude. I have compassion, listen well, and am committed to working with those that want to be healthier. I tailor my programs based on your individual needs, lifestyle, and health goals.
